Our story
Born in a Japanese clinic.
While developing a CO₂ treatment for pressure sores at his clinic, dermatologist Dr. Masato Hiki noticed what it did for the look of the surrounding skin. In 1997 he turned that discovery into a CO₂ gel mask, and later created Dr. MEDION with his daughter to bring it home. His formula was patented in Japan, the US, the EU, China, Canada, Australia and South Korea. He still sees patients today, and Spaoxy Gel is still made in Japan.

Medion Research Laboratories is founded in Osaka, and Dr. Hiki develops his first CO₂ gel mask.
2002
The company opens its own cosmetics factory in Yokohama.
2006
Dr. MEDION launches as the at-home sister brand to its professional line.

Choose by the look you want. Spaoxy Gel (the original) is for fine lines, puffiness and a plumper, brighter look. Bright Plus is for dullness and uneven-looking tone. Matcha Clear Plus is for congested-looking skin and visible pores. Spaoxy Mask is a sheet mask: you squeeze its serum into the sheet to make fresh CO₂, then leave it on for 10 minutes with no rinsing. It’s an easy way to try CO₂ skincare.

No. Clinical carboxytherapy is a procedure in which a trained practitioner delivers CO₂ beneath the skin. Spaoxy is a cosmetic mask inspired by it: mixing the gel and powder creates CO₂ in a thick gel that rests on the skin for 20 minutes. It is skincare, not a medical treatment.

You mix a gel and a powder just before use, so the CO₂ is made fresh in the cup. The thick gel then stays on your skin for 20 minutes before you remove it with the spatula and rinse.

In a 2024 clinical study of Spaoxy Gel, no irritation was observed in any of the 34 participants. People with known sensitivities to cosmetics weren’t included, though, so if your skin is sensitive, try it on a small area first and stop if you notice irritation.

Orders ship within 1–2 business days, and standard delivery usually takes 4–7 business days after that. Shipping is free on U.S. orders of $60 or more. Expedited 2-day shipping is available at checkout. For Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, shipping is a flat $15.
