Dassai 23 is made from rice which is milled to 23% of the original size for brewing, believed to be the finest degree of milling in Japan. The Dassai facial mask is formulated with Dassai 23 sake, brewed from rice painstakingly milled twenty-four hours a day over seven days, for a total of 168 hours, and Dassai Sake Lee Essence, drawn from the sake lees produced during the brewing process.

THE DASSAI BEAUTY PRODUCT LINE

Dassai is known for creating a number of high-quality beauty products, more notably their facial mask which harnesses the uniquely nourishing properties of fermented sake lees (or 酒粕/sake kasu), an ancient skincare secret from Japan. In addition to their facial masks, they also offer their Oil-in-Moisturizing lotion which helps users maintain a beautiful and translucent complexion due to the abundance of natural amino acids.

Dassai Beauty sources their lees from the brewing process for Dassai 23, an impeccable Junmai-Daiginjo sake. Fortify your skin’s microbiome while nourishing your skin inside and out with their highly effect masks and oil-in-moisturizing lotions.

HOW DOES DASSAI MAKE IT’S SAKE-BASED BEAUTY PRODUCTS?

Dassai 23 sake is made from rice which is milled to 23% of the original size for brewing, believed to be the finest degree of milling in Japan. This requires the rice to be painstakingly milled for twenty-four hours a day over seven days, for a total of 168 hours.

The Dassai facial mask is formulated with the lees of Dassai 23 sake, and the same uncompromising dedication to detail and quality that is exemplified in their sake also shines through in their skincare products.

HOW IS SAKE LEES MADE?

Brewing sake is a time honored tradition in Japan, and typically involves inoculating steamed rice with the national mold of Japan, known as koji. After being left to ferment for nearly a month, the fermented rice mash is pressed and sake is drawn off. The rice mash left behind is a nutrient dense ingredient known as sake kasu or sake lees.

FERMENTED SAKE LEE ESSENCE

Dassai Sake Lee Essence contains 16 natural amino acids (glutamic acid, aspartic acid, leucine, arginine, alanine, valine) that are primary components of the skin’s own natural moisturizing factor. It also includes nano-collagen, a form of hydrolyzed collagen with a reduced molecular weight that offers excellent permeability and high moisture retention.

Sake lees are also an invaluable source of a highly stable vitamin C variant, which provides antioxidant effects and improved skin absorbability, dullness reduction, and skin smoothing. With antioxidant protection and increased moisture retention, skin is left looking radiant and nourished immediately after every use.

IS FERMENTED SAKE GOOD FOR SKIN?

The amino acids created during the fermentation process of creating sake are potent agents for hydration, specifically glutamic acid. This amino acid helps prevent the moisture on your skin from evaporating by forming a hydrogel film on the surface of your skin. This traps moisture in the skin, while also providing a plumping effect that smooths fine lines and wrinkles. Sake lees are rich in a multitude of enzymes that can gently exfoliate your skin, as well as peptides, and linoleic acid, which helps strengthen the skin barrier to keep hydration in and environmental stressors out.
