In a successful J-Beauty routine, we often refer to the Japanese word Teinei (translated to “with care and politeness”) as the basic rule for careful daily skincare. Choosing products that are extra-gentle not only reduce classic signs of irritation like redness and inflammation; they keep skin healthier over time! Teinei not only applies to the products we use, but also simple techniques we can adopt to keep our skin looking and feeling its absolute best.

Just because the sun isn’t shining as much, sun damage is entirely possible on windy, cloudy days as it is on a scorching summer day. Sun damage is caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation, not the temperature outside. Ultraviolet A rays (aka “long wave” rays) not only make up about 95% of rays that reach us, they penetrate the skin much deeper than UVB rays, causing signs of aging like dark spots and wrinkles.

As tempting as it is to conserve that SPF for actual sunny days, applying a minimum SPF 30 every single day not only protects from sun damage, but also premature signs of aging – who doesn’t want that?
